❓ FAQ
Which ideal weight formula is most accurate?
No formula is absolutely accurate. BMI is based on statistical averages, the Devine formula is commonly used in medical settings, and the Hamwi formula accounts for body frame. We recommend averaging multiple formulas and combining with body fat percentage for a comprehensive assessment.
What is the normal BMI range?
BMI 18.5-23.9 is normal (Chinese standard); 24-27.9 is overweight; ≥28 is obese; <18.5 is underweight. The international standard normal range is 18.5-24.9.
Can muscular people have a high BMI?
Yes. BMI only considers height and weight and cannot distinguish between muscle and fat. People with high muscle mass may show as overweight or even obese by BMI, despite having normal body fat percentage. We recommend combining BMI with body fat percentage assessment.
